Are Your Relationships Feeling Confusing, Hurtful or Like You're Performing?

Sometimes it feels like:

  • You’re speaking a different language to everyone else
  • Everyone else's relationships are easy
  • You're performing a part that doesn't feel like who you are

This can leave you feeling lonely, confused and rejected. Sometimes we find ways of being in relationships that make sense on the outside and seem to work, but on the inside we feel unseen like we’re playing a part we don't want to play.

I can help you to develop safe, compassionate relationships where you can show up authentically as your whole self with confidence.

I work with adults aged 18 and over and I can support you as an individual, a couple or in other relationships like parent and adult-child, to develop healthy boundaries and a common language, so you can be loved and accepted for who you are.

How I Can Help

Hi, I'm Kate McKenna, a BACP Registered Counsellor and Couples Therapist based in Godalming, Surrey.

I specialise in helping individuals and couples navigate relationship challenges, parenting difficulties and emotional well-being concerns.

Often people start counselling because they're stuck and can't see a way forward. Sometimes we think that our problems are because of one thing, when actually there a lots of things mixed together making things much more complicated than they might first appear.

Common themes that can be in the mix are:

  • Communication issues in relationships
  • Coping with parenting stress
  • Managing anxiety in relationships
  • Healing from childhood trauma
  • Support for postpartum depression and anxiety
  • Help with setting boundaries
  • Overcoming people-pleasing behaviour
  • Not feeling good enough

Because an issue is rarely just one thing, I work with relationship issues in a variety of ways such as:

  • Relationship counselling for couples
  • Relationship counselling for parents and adult-children
  • Counselling for parenting neurodivergent children
  • Therapy for relational trauma
  • Perinatal and postnatal mental health counselling
  • Therapy for depression
  • Autism/ADHD/PDA parenting support
  • Counselling for confidence
  • Counselling for Neurodivergence and relationships

Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or seeking personal growth, I'm can support you.

I can work with you to

  • Set boundaries that protect you so you can show up authentically with confidence
  • Learn how to communicate to minimise conflict, be understood and respected
  • Identify and lean into the strengths and skills you already have but don't know are there

How Do I Book a Counselling Session in Godalming or Online?

The quickest and easiest way to get in touch is by filling out the contact form here. This comes straight to my email, which I check regularly throughout the day.

Due to the nature of my work, I may not be able to reply immediately, but I aim to get back to you within 24 hours (Monday to Friday). If you haven’t heard from me after 24 hours, please do feel free to send another message in case there’s been a technical issue.

If you’d like to begin with a free call, we can arrange a convenient time for a phone chat. You can also read my blog post

'Finding a counsellor: How to make the most of a free call'

If you’re ready to start, and would like to know more about what happens in the first session, I’ve written two blog posts that might help: one for individual counselling and one for couples therapy.

Where is Your Counselling Practice in Godalming, Surrey?

My therapy room is based at Surrey Holistic, in central Godalming. You’ll find it just off the High Street, down a short cobbled path. It’s tucked away from the bustle, offering a quiet and private space for counselling.

If you’re driving, you can park for free in Sainsbury’s (for up to 2 hours) or Waitrose (for up to 90 minutes). It’s also just a short walk from local car parks, including Crown Court Car Park, Queen Street Car Park, and Waverley Council Office Car Park.

I have use of two therapy rooms at Surrey Holistic, both are on the first floor and accessed by stairs. When you arrive, there’s a small waiting area, and usually someone at the front desk who are happy to help if you need anything before your session.

How Do I Pay for Counselling Sessions?

Once we’ve agreed on a time for your counselling session, you’ll receive an email from KMC Counselling with your booking details and a secure payment link.

Payment is made online when you confirm your booking. This applies to both individual counselling and couples therapy sessions.

If you have any questions about how to pay or how the booking system works, I’ll be happy to help when we arrange your first appointment.

How Does Online Relationship and Parenting Counselling Work?

Once your appointment is booked, you’ll receive an email with all the details, including a secure Zoom link to join your session.

On the day, simply click the link a few minutes before your appointment to join our virtual waiting room.

Sessions last 50 minutes and take place at the agreed time, just like in-person counselling.

Online counselling offers a convenient and comfortable way to receive support from home or anywhere you feel safe.

Are Counselling Sessions Confidential and Private?

Yes. Confidentiality is a core part of counselling. Everything you share during our sessions is held in strict confidence, within the limits of the law and ethical guidelines.

I adhere to professional standards set by counselling bodies to keep your information safe and secure. This includes secure storage of records and private, confidential sessions whether in person or online.

The only times confidentiality may be broken are in situations where there is a risk of harm to you or others, or when legally required. I will always make every effort discuss this with you first if it arises.

If you have any questions or concerns about confidentiality, please feel free to ask.

Do You Offer Evening and Weekend Counselling Appointments?

Yes, I offer limited evening availability on Mondays and Wednesdays, as well as weekend sessions on Saturday mornings.

If you need a time outside of typical working hours, please get in touch to see what’s available.

How Many Counselling Sessions Will I Need?

The number of counselling sessions you’ll need depends entirely on you and your unique situation. Everyone’s journey is different, so it’s hard to say an exact number upfront.

Throughout our work together, we’ll regularly reflect on your progress and how things are going, adjusting the pace as needed to support your goals.

Ultimately, you’re in charge of your counselling journey, you can stay for as long or as little as feels right for you.

Do You Offer Couples Counselling in Godalming or Online?

Yes, I work with adults (18+) either individually or as couples. If you’d like to begin couples counselling, it’s important that all communication includes everyone involved.

Sometimes you might be thinking about couples therapy but haven’t yet talked to your partner about it. That’s completely okay. You’re welcome to email me first to get any information or support you need to start that conversation.

If you both decide to move forward, you can then contact me together to take the next steps toward building a stronger relationship through therapy.

Get in touch

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how therapy works, and to arrange an appointment.

Its helpful for me to know whether you're looking for support for just you, or as a couple and what you'd like me to help with.
