COUNSELLING in Godalming, Surrey & online

Welcome to Kate McKenna - KMC Counselling

Helping Adults, Couples and Parents Build Lasting, Loving Relationships With Themselves And The People That Matter Most.

Are You Feeling Dissatisfied, Unheard or Invisible In Your Relationships?

Sometimes it feels like

  • Everyone else's feelings and needs are more important than yours
  • You talk but no one is listening
  • It might be easier just to walk away

How I Can Help

Hi I'm Kate and I work with adults (18+) individually and as couples that want to improve their relationships with themselves, their partners and/or their children.

When you've lost touch with who you are or things in your relationships are difficult, you can feel anxious, resentful or stuck, uncertain how to move forward. You might try to push your feelings down hoping they will pass.

When we push things down, just like a volcano pressure builds and eventually it comes exploding out in ways we might regret. This can push people away when what you really want is to feel understood, valued and loved.

I can work with you to

  • Set boundaries that protect your peace and nurture safe relationships
  • learn how to communicate, be heard and reduce conflict
  • Stop people pleasing, start honouring your own needs and nurture intimacy

How Do I Make An Appointment?

The quickest and easiest way is to send a form through my website, you can do that here this goes to my email which i check periodically through the day. Alternatively you can send me a message on WhatsApp on 07384896879.

Its really helpful if you can include some details like your email address and telephone number and tell me a little bit about what you'd like me to help with. Remember to let me know whether you're looking to meet online or in person as this will affect what times I will be available for sessions.

I aim to reply within 24 hours Monday - Friday letting you know my availability to book either a free call or if you've already made a decision to get started, we can book your first session.

If you choose to have a free call we'll arrange a time to speak on the phone, you can read my blog Finding a Counsellor; how to Make The Most Of A Free Call for more about this. If you're ready to get started and book your first session, check out my blog The Adventure Begins: What is The First Session Like? for more information on what to expect.

How do I get to you?

My room is in Surrey Holistic in Godalming, it is situated down a short cobbled path and nestled slightly back from the Highstreet. You can park for free in Sainsburys for 2 hours or Waitrose for 90 minutes.

Its a short walk from several car parks including, Crown Court Car Park, Queen Street Car Park and Waverly Council Office Car Park.

I have use of two rooms, both are on the first floor which is accessed by stairs only. When you come in you'll see a small waiting area and there is usually someone on the front desk Monday - Saturday who will be happy to help if you need anything before our session.

How do I pay for my sessions?

I ask that sessions be paid via bank transfer, details for this will be provided within your counselling agreement. I ask for payments to be made 48 hours before we're due to meet to prevent any disruption to your sessions due to delays in payments being processed. Upon request I can provide invoices.

How Does Online Counselling Work?

On the day we've arranged to meet I'll send you a Zoom link by email. A few minutes before we meet click the link and you'll be taken to a virtual waiting room. Here you can check your camera, mic and speakers are working properly. Try to make sure that your head and shoulders are clearly visible and I'll do the same. At the time of your appointment I'll let you into the virtual meeting room. Just like in person sessions we'll meet for 50 minutes at the same time each week for as long as you feel is needed.

Are our therapy sessions confidential and private?

Yes, everything we talk about will be confidential, this means that i won't tell anyone what we've talked about. There are a couple of limitations to this, for example if you inform me of a risk that we can't safely manage within our sessions. In this instance we might need to reach out to other professionals to help us manage that risk. If you'd like more information about confidentiality feel free to get in touch to ask any questions or request a copy of my confidentiality policy.

Do You Work Evenings And Weekends?

Yes, I have limited availability for evening sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays. I also offer weekend sessions on Saturday mornings.

How many sessions will I need?

This is up to you, its hard to say an exact number because there are lots of factors that effect how long counselling can take such as what you need to work on and what we uncover along the way. We will regularly reflect on how things are going, the progress you've made and where we are in the journey towards you goals. sometimes goals change along the way and this can impact how long you stay. Ultimately you're in charge and you can stay for as long or as little as you feel is needed.

Do You Work With Couples?

Yes, I work with adults (18+) either individually or as couples. If you'd like to work together as a couple its important that all of our communication includes everyone. Sometimes you might not have discussed couples therapy with your partner yet and you might like some support to do this. That's ok, you can email me first for the information you need to share with them and then if you decide to move forward with therapy, you can contact me together for the next steps.
